Gentlemen, the look for fall is layers and clean lines. It is no longer acceptable to have shirts that are not trim-fitting, no matter if you are carrying a bit of extra bulk. Reds and purples are the colours that are making us stand out this season.

A patterned jacket adds interest to an outfit that can go from the boardroom to an after-work meeting in comfort. Layering a sweater over your shirt keeps you comfortable in any office environment. Remember: flat front pants, guys—no pleats, please.

Slacks by Reporter, $250, blazer by Hugo Boss, $650, sweater by A-B-KOST, $225, and shirt by Sartoria,
$225, all from Hanford Drewitt,
354 Broadway, 957-1640.

Brian Bowman is a partner with Pitblado LLP and practices as a business lawyer. He is a frequent speaker, media commentator and author in the areas of privacy and access to information law, and has been recognized as one of Canada’s leading privacy law authorities.

In his downtime, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, fly-fishing and golfing, and is also involved in numerous volunteer efforts, including serving as director for the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce. “One thing I love about Winnipeg is the sense of community, especially in the corporate field,” he says.

Move away from the standard solid-coloured dress shirt. Here, a large-checked suit works perfectly with a smaller-checked shirt. For checked shirts, stay away striped ties and go with a small, detailed pattern.

Suit by Sand, $950, shirt by Sand, $210, and tie by Ted Baker, $95, all from Vittorio Rossi, 1730 Corydon Ave, 489-1001.

Adding a boldly-patterned shirt and pocket square not only helps you stand out, but highlights the texture in your jacket. Dark denim with coloured stitching  finishes off a great casual office look that also works for the weekend.

Jeans by Sand, $275, shirt by Sand, $210, jacket by Sand, $735, and belt by Paolo da Ponte, $225, all from Vittorio Rossi, 1730 Corydon Ave, 489-1001.

As the autumn winds blow, be flexible with a great, layered outfit topped with a jacket with sewn-in liner for comfort without bulk. When the wind blows a little harder, flip up the jacket collar for extra protection. Or better yet, toss it over her shoulders to keep her warm for the walk to the car.

Jeans from Replay, $250, sweater by A-B-KOST, $225, shirt by Giovanni Rosmini, $225, and jacket by Reporter, $625, all from Hanford Drewitt, 354 Broadway, 957-1640.
